Interviewed by Gene Marie

“I…just kept growing, and shooting people! The constant challenge, and the more beauty that surrounds me, continues to inspire me.”
Gene: Hello Jenn, thanks for accepting an interview. How about you tell us a little about yourself?
Jenn: My background is pretty simple, grew up in a small town in North Carolina. I have always been family oriented, and also relationship oriented. I then moved to CA about 2 yrs ago due to a bad relationship and it turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done ,as far as career goes. The style of my photography I believe would be defined as: Clean, Simple, Elegant.
Gene: What first inspired your interest in photography? What continues to inspire you?
Jenn: I was in private tech school, and a student inspired me by showing the class the photographs he had taken. I decided to do something similar and just kept growing, and shooting people! The constant challenge, and the more beauty that surrounds me, continues to inspire me.
Gene: Can you describe the first shot that you took that made you, or someone else, feel you had a calling for photography?
Jenn: The kiwi shot! (to view, click here)
Gene: What types of assignments attract you most?
Jenn: I LOVE doing portraits and head shots. I love to capture beauty at it’s finest by a simple portrait of someone.
Gene: What was it like working with Janice Dickinson and the Real Men of Reality TV?
Jenn: It was an amazing experience! She is not as bitchy as people think, she just has a way about her, but she has a heart of gold! The men were awesome too, beautiful and very patient to work with.
Gene: Do you feel that your identity changes when you lift the camera to your eye? Do you act differently?
Jenn: Yes, I get into a mode, people tell me. I am more serious, and more bossy of course but in a good way!
Gene: What do you do to get the best out of a shoot with a model?
Jenn: Try to open up with them as much as possible before the shoot and laugh with them!
Gene: What type of shoot would you like to do that you have not done already?
Jenn: Probably one where someone was on a crane and doing something weird!
Gene: Do you have a favorite photograph? If yes, which one(s) and why?
Jenn: Yes, I do have a favorite photo. Reason being, it is beautiful, simple, yet tells a story.
Gene: Did your early photographic goals include earning a living from photography, or did it start as a way to express yourself creatively?
Jenn: Both combined. They are both equally important to me though.
Gene: What are your dreams as a photographer? What has it been like pursuing your dreams?
Jenn: I want to be shooting big campaigns one day and have my own billboards, and of course Magazine Covers. It has been quite a journey.
Gene: What’s next? What are you working on now?
Jenn: Trying to get as many people as possible to shoot, and perhaps some celebrities here and there, not an easy task!
Gene: If you were to give ‘words of wisdom’ to those that want to follow your footsteps into a photographer’s career, what would you say?
Jenn: Definitely to network as much as possible, invest in a good camera, and be self taught and learn from other photographers.
Gene: Thank you Jenn, for taking the time for an interview.
Jenn: I would like to thank everyone who has supported me on my photographic career journey and I am just thankful for everything!
